Commissioner Saurabh Rao promises action regarding the ‘Thane Gaurav Award’ controversy; demand raised for an immediate inquiry to uphold the award’s dignity.

Thane: Office-bearers of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) party submitted a memorandum to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Saurabh Rao, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the ‘Thane Gaurav Award’ conferred upon Mr. Vinod Patil to preserve the award’s prestige and credibility.

The memorandum highlighted that the TMC’s Education Department had previously taken action regarding unauthorized schools in the Diva area, and a case (FIR No. 0694/2023, dated July 4, 2023, under Section 188 of the IPC) was registered at the Mumbra Police Station in connection with this matter. Since the individual involved in this case was the same person who received the ‘Thane Gaurav Award’ from the TMC, the party demanded that the administration conduct a serious inquiry into the selection process.

The ‘Thane Gaurav Award’ is not merely an honor for an individual but is linked to the prestige of Thane city and the credibility of the Municipal Corporation. Therefore, the memorandum asserted that if a serious case is pending against a selected recipient, an objective inquiry is essential.

Upon accepting the memorandum, TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao assured the delegation that he would take cognizance of the matter and issue orders for necessary action against the concerned individual, the petitioners stated.

Present on the occasion were Kalyan Lok Sabha District Organizer Ravindra Surve, Kalyan Rural Assembly Deputy District Chief Adv. Rohidas Bama Munde, Diva City Chief Sachin Patil, Kalwa City Chief Lahu Chalke, Diva Deputy Sub-division Chief Shashikant Kumbhargan, and others were present.

A demand was made that the Municipal Corporation conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter to clarify the facts and, should the allegations against the concerned individual be substantiated during the inquiry, take a decision regarding the ‘Thane Gaurav Award’ in accordance with the rules.
